A CORRELATIONAL STUDY OF PERSONALITY FACETS AND SELF ESTEEM IN SPORTS AND NON-SPORTS COLLEGE STUDENTS OF JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY

The aim of the present study was to nd out correlational study of personality facets and self esteem in sports and nonsports college students of Jadavpur University. To fulll the objectives total one hundred male students were included and further divided into two groups, students involved in sports (N-50) & not involved in sports (N-50). They all were assessed on personality facets and on their self-esteem with the help of Eysenck Personality Inventory and Self-Esteem scale by Rosenberg. The result of the present study indicate that there is no signicant relationship in personality facets (neuroticism, psychoticism, and extraversion) and self-esteem in both the groups of college students (involved in sports and non involved in sports). Secondly, non-sports college students were found to have signicant more psychotic and neurotic traits as compared to sports college students. Thirdly, sports college students have signicantly more extraversion traits than non sports college student. And nally, both the groups did not signicantly differ in self-esteem traits.
