ABSTRACT

Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are public health issues anticipated to triple in numbers by 2050. No known cures exist, and developed pharmacologics have been ineffective and produced side effects, warranting the need for more lifestyle approaches. We review the pathophysiology, risk factors, diagnoses, and contemporary treatments for Alzheimer’s and other dementias for clinical exercise physiologists.
