Connecting Entrepreneurship Research and Practice in Entrepreneurship Education
Johan Wiklund, Einar Rasmussen, Riccardo Fini, Lise AaboenThis special issue editorial assesses research on entrepreneurship education (EE) and its connections to mainstream entrepreneurship research. Mainstream entrepreneurship research may be foundational to EE; however, we find that the connection between the two is weak. Strengthening this connection could make entrepreneurship research more relevant to practice and give EE a stronger knowledge base. We evaluate EE’s outcomes, theories, methods, and practical implications and discuss how the EE literature can rely more on entrepreneurship research, strengthening its conceptual depth. We conclude by summarizing promising examples of contemporary research included in this special issue and outline a research agenda for connecting EE and mainstream entrepreneurship research to increase their relevance and impact.
